Research Process

Creating this project was no easy task.

I needed to know exactly what I wanted from this project, what resources I had available to me, what skills I currently have that will set me up for success, and what skills or programs I needed to learn in order to create a cohesive project.

So I took to Miro.

I first had to address my old project’s narrative, and analyze it. What could I do differently to create a better sense of focus in the narrative?

I wanted to stay close to my original Destination Project, but I felt there needed to be a shift in the narrative in order to create a more cohesive project. I was too vague in my original project but that’s because I left the book to be interpreted by the reader.

With that in mind, I took stock.

A lot of my work happens by discovery, and by spur of the moment occurrences. Laying out all of the details helped me reach that eureka moment.

I threw out some of my old ideas for the narrative and focused on the Exoplanet Sustainability Program.

I reassessed. This was the idea that allowed me to do all of the things that I wanted to do.

What followed was research about current eco-malpractice on Earth, and contrastingly eco-friendly practice. Additionally, I researched images of Mars, and movies like The Martian to gather inspiration for things I would need to model. Finally, I researched the feasibility of certain methods of eco-friendly practice on Mars, including base locations that would be good for power generation, machines that would help sustain humans on Mars, upon other supplementary research.

These aspects would all be managed by an app (see Mars Companion App)

More research was done but shown in other categories due to their subject matter.
